Stroke Program

The Activate center in Geneva offers a unique post-stroke protocol combining GIGER MD®, blood LLLT, and transcutaneous vagal stimulation. This integrative approach promotes neuroplasticity, reduces inflammation, and improves motor and autonomic functions.

Rewiring the brain after a stroke: the Activate protocol

At the Activate center in Geneva, we offer a unique and intensive program to help stroke survivors recover their motor, cognitive, and autonomic functions. This program is built on three complementary therapeutic pillars: neuro-motor rehabilitation with the GIGER MD® device, blood LLLT (Low-Level Laser Therapy), and transcutaneous vagal nerve stimulation (tVNS).

1. GIGER MD®: reactivating motor neural networks

The GIGER MD® device stimulates neural plasticity by reorganizing central nervous system networks through rhythmic, coordinated movements of all four limbs. While lying down, the patient performs gentle, cyclical movements—either guided or motor-assisted—that simultaneously engage spinal and cortical motor centers. This treatment promotes:

Neuroplasticity and motor reprogramming

Improved walking, balance, and coordination

Reduced autonomic dysfunction (continence, digestion, etc.)

Better regulation of cognitive and respiratory functions

2. Blood LLLT: oxygenation, regulation, and anti-inflammation

We use transcutaneous blood irradiation (TLBI), performed on superficial veins using red and infrared lasers (630 to 980 nm). This therapy works on multiple levels:

Reduces inflammation via the cholinergic anti-TNF pathway

Improves microcirculation and tissue oxygenation

Provides neuroprotective effects and stimulates cellular regeneration

Reduces fatigue and pain

Studies have shown that photobiomodulation also facilitates the migration of neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPCs) after stroke, enhancing neural recovery potential.

3. Transcutaneous vagal nerve stimulation (tVNS): restoring autonomic balance

The vagus nerve plays a key role in modulating inflammation, regulating stress, heart rate, and digestive activity. Our protocol uses non-invasive transauricular stimulation (at the left ear), which enables:

Activation of the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway

Improved autonomic regulation (digestion, sleep, heart rhythm)

Reduced cortical hyperexcitation and stress-related symptoms

Support for brain plasticity alongside motor exercises

An integrative and personalized approach

The post-stroke program at Activate center is fully personalized based on each patient's profile, lesion location, persistent deficits, and recovery goals. It can be integrated into a more comprehensive care plan (nutrition, speech therapy, cognitive support, etc.).
